Alladin and the Enchanted Lamp

Alladin and the Enchanted Lamp

Aladdin is the main character of the fairy tale Aladdin and the Enchanted Lamp. This is part of the One Thousand and One Nights anthology. According to the oriental story he had an enchanted lamp that granted him every wish.

Like all other stories, this one too begins with… once upon a time, there was a boy called Aladdin, who lived with his Mother in a wonderful city in China. One day, Aladdin was playing with other children in the great market, when he came across a wizard, dressed in silk robes and wearing a large turban on his head. He had come all the way from Africa, as he had found out that in Aladdin’s city there was a magic lamp, which could give him incredible powers. He had also discovered that Aladdin alone could reach that enchanted lamp, so he had come up with a plan:

– Are you the son of Mustafa, the tailor?

– I am, but my Father is dead.

– I know, my dearest nephew.

-Nephew?

– Yes, your Father was my brother. From this day on, I shall take care of you and your Mother, said the man, giving the boy a big hug.

The wizard managed to gain the family’s trust, offering Aladdin and his Mother countless gifts and promising them he would help the boy become a merchant. One day, he lured Aladdin to the cave where the magic lamp was hidden and told him:

– I have an easy mission for you. Walk into that cave and look for an old lamp. Only those

with a pure heart can go in, so I need your help. Take this ring with you and it will protect you of all evil. Hurry! And remember – the cave is filled with jewelry and money, but you mustn’t touch anything, but the lamp.

And so the boy ventured into the dark cave.

– Wow, I’ve never seen such riches before! I wonder why he wants an old, rusty lamp?

– Bring me the lamp, boy, quick, quick! said the wizard, suddenly less friendly.

– But first you need to help me get out of here!

– Give me the lamp, or else I will let you rot in this cave forever!

Scared of his demanding voice, Aladdin realised his uncle was not the kind man he had taken

him for. Suddenly, the stone door of the cave was sealed shut, and Aladdin was left holding the lamp, trying to ask for help.

– Oh, little lamp, how can I light you up so I can get out of this dreadful place? thought Aladdin, while rubbing the small, rusty object.

And lo and behold, out of the lamp came a giant figure who told him:

– Uuuuuuu, I’m the ginny of this lamp and from this day forward, your wish is my command.

– I just want to go home, to my Mother.

From that day on, their life changed completely. With the help of the ginny, they lived happily for years, and one day, Aladdin even opened a great fabric shop. His Mother was so proud of the wonderful, beautiful and talented young man Aladdin had become.

One beautiful morning, in the great market, the young man saw Jasmine, the Sultan’s daughter, and fell deeply in love with her.

– Ginny, I wish to marry this beautiful girl. Help me become a prince.

The ginny made his wish come true in a heartbeat and Jasmine became his wife.

After a couple of years, Jasmine was home alone, when she heard a merchant wished to see

her.

– Your highness, I buy old lamps and trade them for new ones. Do you have any you could

give me?

– Yes, I’ll bring you an old, rusty lamp that my husband keeps in the attick. He’ll be happy

to learn I got a new one instead.

What the princess did not know was that she was talking to the evil wizard, who immediately

snatched the lamp out of her hands.

– I’m the ginny of this lamp and from this day on, your wish is my command.

– At last, mwuahaha! From this day on, I shall be your master! I want you yo yake this entire

palace, together with princess Jasmine, to Africa, where I live.

When he saw that everything had vanished, Aladdin understood what had happened and

suddenly remembered the ring the wizard had given him.

– Take me to my sweet-heart, for I can’t live without her!

And so the ring did.

Aladdin found himself before his palace and saw Jasmine.

– My dear, take this sleeping dust and pour it into the wizard’s drink. I’ll get you out of here!

In no more than a few moments, the evil wizard fell deeply asleep and the two lovers were able to return home, with the help of the ginnny.

– Welcome back, said the Sultan, teary-eyed. I thought I had lost you forever!

And so Aladdin and Jasmine lived happily ever after and they never needed the magic lamp ever again.
