Princess Snow White is a character loved by children all over the world. The popular fairy tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was collected by the Brothers Grimm around 1812, and many films and cartoons have been based on it. Some of the most famous symbols of the fairy tale are the enchanted mirror, the poisoned apple, the girdle. The queen symbolizes the evil that is constantly fighting to defeat the good, and the forest can symbolize the world in which every man must find his way. In addition to the stories, the Brothers Grimm also contributed to the formation of the German language, especially thanks to a 33-volume dictionary of the language.

Like all other stories, this one too begins with… once upon a time, there was a queen who, while sewing by the window, hurt her finger. A few drops of blood fell on the white snow and the queen said:
– Oh, how I wish I had a daughter! Her skin would be as white as snow, her lips as red as blood and her hair as black as ebony.
Her wish came true, so she named her daughter Snow White. Shortly however, the Queen died and the King married a woman, beautiful like no other, but also mean and wicked. She would always look at herself in a magic mirror and ask:
– Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?
– You are, your Majesty!
And the answer remained the same for years, until one day, when the mirror said:
– Fair you are, my Queen, but Snow White is now a wonderful young woman and her beauty surpasses yours.
Upon hearing this, the step mother called the hunter and ordered him to kill the girl.
– To prove you have indeed killed her, you must fetch me her heart!
But the hunter was a kind man, so he took the heart of a stag and told Snow White to run deep in the woods, as far away from the palace as she could.
After a long and tiring journey, almost at sun down, the girl saw a little hut and, thinking she could
spend the night there, said:
– I wonder who lives here. I’ll just go in, I’m too tired to walk any further!
On the table there were seven plates, seven cups and seven spoons and in the bedroom seven beds, with sheets as white as snow.
– I’m so sleepy, I think I’ll lie down for a few moments. Mmmm… but not before I try some of this delicious food, as I am so, so hungry. Oh… this is such a tiny bed! And this one is a bit… wide. And this.. hard. Oh, here’s one that is perfect for me!
The beautiful girl fell asleep. After a while, the seven dwarves who lived there got home, after a long day of digging in the mine for precious gems.
– Hey, who ate from my plate?
– And who drank from my cup?
– And who sat on my chair? And on my bed?
– Somebody sat on mine as well!
Woken up by their voices, Snow White told her story to the dwarves who, touched by her words, asked her to stay with them.
– You are safe here, we’ll take care of you and you can cook and clean the house! The only thing we ask you is to not open the door while we’re away.
– Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all? asked the Queen one day.
– Snow White is, who lives deep within the woods, at the dwarves’ hut.
Furious, the Queen came up with a plan, she turned into a merchant and went to the woods.
– Open the door, you beautiful girl, I wish to offer you a gift. I have the best goods in the land, colourful belts…
Enchanted by the beauty of the gift, Snow White opened the door and the wicked woman grabbed her neck so tight, that the girl fell on the ground, almost dead. Luckily, the dwarves came home and saved her.
Angry that her plan had failed, the Queen turned into an old woman and knocked on Snow White’s door again, offering her a comb.
– Come here, let me comb your hair, for it is so beautiful!
The moment the poisoned comb touched her ebony black her, the girl fainted.
– Ha ha, you won’t make it this time around!
But the woman’s joy was short lived, as the dwarves rescued Snow White once more.
– Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who’s the fairest of them all?
– Snow White is, your Majesty.
– What? This can’t be true!
Dressed as a fruit merchant, the woman mixed some powders and potions and set off again:
– No, thank you!
– Why, are you worried that my apples are poisoned? Look, I’ll have a bite here, and you can have a bite on this side!
But that side of the apple was poisoned and, right before she swallowed it, the beautiful Snow White fell to the ground.
In vain did the dwarves try to rescue her, this time it was too late, so they lay her in a glass coffin, so that everyone could admire her beauty and they wept and wept.
– What a beautiful girl! I wish I could take her to my castle, said a prince who passed her by one day.
The sad dwarves helped the young prince take Snow White away. On the way, one of them stumbled over a log and the piece of poisoned apple jumped out of the princess’s throat.
– Where am I? What happened?
– My darling, you were poisoned, but now, happily, you have come back to life. Will you marry me?
Amazed by what had happened and by the beauty of the young prince, the girl accepted. They had such a wonderful wedding. When she heard this, her step mother was so angry, that she turned into stone.
